Rising Digital Scam Tactics: Kaizen Collaborative Impact Presents Premiere Session Scam Ready ASEAN in Takalar
TAKALAR, October 15, 2026 — Heightened vigilance against digital scam tactics has become an essential need amid the widespread activity of society in the digital space. Reports of online arisan scams that harmed residents in Takalar Regency are one reason people need the ability to understand and recognize patterns of manipulation before conducting digital transactions and sharing personal data.

The case reported by Fajar Indonesia News on July 5, 2026 regarding an arisan-themed scam reported by residents of Lassang Village, Takalar Regency, is one illustration of the risk of scams that are widespread among the people of Takalar Regency. The online arisan system that promises the same payout amount has caused many losses reaching hundreds of millions per person. This is one important factor in the need for public vigilance against offers involving money and trust.
Responding to this need for vigilance, Kaizen Collaborative Impact took the initiative to make Takalar Regency the first location for the Premiere Session of Scam Ready ASEAN in South Sulawesi. Scam Ready ASEAN is an ASEAN Foundation initiative with support from Google.org. Through a strategic collaboration with Kaizen Collaborative Impact as Local Implementing Partner, this activity presents anti-digital scam learning to support the community in better understanding and recognizing various scam threats in the digital space.
The Regent of Takalar, Mohammad Firdaus Daeng Manye, emphasized that strengthening digital literacy and vigilance is the main key to preventing people from becoming victims of cybercrime.
“Internet users need to get into the habit of checking the truth of information, verifying the identity of the party contacting them, and not rushing to send money or provide personal information,” said Daeng Manye.
Through the initiative of the Takalar Regency regional government in presenting the Scam Ready ASEAN program together with Kaizen Collaborative Impact, the public is invited to understand various online scam tactics through an educational approach that is interactive and easy to understand through the Be Scam Ready game (https://bit.ly/BSR_PlayWithKaizen).
This session emphasized the importance of recognizing various forms of manipulation and which channels are usually targeted by scammers, so it is important for the public to recheck the source of information, ensure the identity of the party contacting them can be trusted or is merely impersonating someone we know. It also fosters the habit of avoiding decisions made hastily due to pressure or because they appear personally advantageous.

Scam Ready ASEAN Debuts in Maluku, Urges Students and Teachers in Aru Islands to Be More Vigilant Against Digital Scams
Maluku, 5 October 2026 — Various forms of digital scams are increasingly becoming part of everyday life, including in school environments. Prize draw messages, fake offers, and communications demanding immediate money transfers are examples of situations that can occur without warning.
This learning is certainly highly relevant for people who are often active in online transactions, the education ecosystem, families, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), caregivers/nurses, the elderly, or even other community groups that use technology in daily life. Scammers can also very easily enter the gaps in each of these groups, because they tend to exploit blind spots and use tactics that are highly relevant to our needs.
“If you encounter a suspected scam, the public should save evidence of communication and transactions, then report it through the authorized official channels,” emphasized Mr. Daeng Manye
Through Scam Ready ASEAN, which voices the tagline Learn Play And Protect One Another, Daeng Manye hopes that this initiative will not stop at educational activities alone, but can create positive habits in the digital life of the people of Takalar.
“Takalar is expected not only to be the starting point of this activity in South Sulawesi, but also to be part of a joint movement to build a society that is increasingly resilient in facing the threat of digital scams,” he emphasized again
“The ASEAN Foundation was established by ASEAN leaders on December 15, 1997 at the 30th ASEAN Anniversary Commemorative Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The ASEAN Foundation works for and with the ASEAN community with the mandate to build an integrated and prosperous ASEAN Community through enhancing awareness, identity, interaction, and the development of the ASEAN community.”
“Scam Ready ASEAN is a program implemented by the ASEAN Foundation with USD 5 million in support from Google.org for the 2025–2027 period. This program aims to equip 3 million people in the ASEAN region with practical knowledge to recognize and respond to online scams, including threats that are evolving with the use of AI. This program is implemented through training, game-based learning such as Be Scam Ready, public awareness campaigns, and various activities at the national and regional levels to strengthen community readiness in facing digital scams.”
